Location: Vancouver, BC | Company: Tesla

Tesla’s Optimus Geartrain Manufacturing team in Langley, BC is looking for a skilled and driven Robotics Mechanical Equipment Design Engineer to help build the production infrastructure behind one of the most ambitious robotics programs in the world. You’ll be embedded in a cross-functional environment working alongside Design, Quality, Production, Automation, and Supply Chain teams throughout the full lifecycle of gearbox manufacturing equipment — from initial concept through prototype development and into full-scale production. If you’re the type of engineer who gets excited about custom machine building, thrives under pressure, and takes real pride in what you ship, this role is worth a close look.

About the Role: Robotics Mechanical Equipment Design Engineer

At the heart of this position is ownership — you’ll own the design of manufacturing equipment builds from first concept through assembly and production bring-up. That means preparing machine design concepts for custom, special-purpose manufacturing systems, creating detailed mechanical drawings for automated tooling, fixtures, mechanisms, and robotic end-of-arm tooling, and carrying out rigorous engineering analysis including hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).

Beyond design work, you’ll play a critical liaison role between actuator, gearbox, design, and manufacturing engineering departments. You’ll lead technical conversations with sub-system and equipment suppliers, coordinate with internal and external machine shops to fabricate custom components, and work directly with technician teams to assemble and commission new equipment. Equipment validation, reliability testing, and handover documentation are also part of the scope.
