About the Role: Pharmacist

Responsibilities
The daily work blends dispensing accuracy with patient education. Several duties apply only where, or to the extent that, provincial regulations permit them; those conditions are kept below as stated.
- Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels
- Check prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for therapeutic appropriateness, including but not limited to drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dose, frequency, and dosage form
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed, take verbal prescriptions, and select therapeutic substitutions when appropriate
- Oversee the collection of patient medical history and maintenance of the confidential computer record
- Collaborate with other health care professionals as necessary to identify and resolve drug therapy problems, and educate patients on proper medication usage
- Provide prompt and courteous patient care, answer patient questions about over-the-counter medication and product location, and preserve patient confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with the Registered Technician to ensure appropriate allocation of work tasks
- Recruit patients for and conduct health and wellness clinics and document interventions where permitted by provincial regulations
- Adapt, extend, and modify prescriptions, and perform specific acts under the delegation or collaboration of a prescriber, to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Administer medications to patients by injection where permitted by provincial regulations
- Conduct full medication reviews, including but not limited to best possible medication histories and medication reconciliation, participate in medication therapy management and do patient follow-up, to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Maintain professional competence through participation in a variety of continuing education initiatives, and maintain required certifications in good standing
- Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager, ensuring smooth operation in the dispensary, and supervise pharmacy interns and students
- Assist with other assigned duties as necessary (listed as a non-essential function)
Requirements / Skills
This is a licensed professional role. A Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy is required, as is being a Licensed Pharmacist in good standing in the province of work, together with computer, math, patient care and member service skills. Previous experience is not asked for.
