Responsibilities

The Registered Pharmacy Technician role at Costco covers a broad range of duties that keep the pharmacy running smoothly. From serving members at the counter to managing prescription workflows and maintaining inventory, every task plays a role in delivering safe, reliable pharmaceutical care. Here’s what you can expect on a typical shift:

• Assist patients at the pharmacy counter, receive written prescriptions, and retrieve filled prescriptions for members
• Process transactions including cash, cheque, credit, and debit payments accurately and efficiently
• Maintain patient records by entering prescription information and updating patient profiles in the pharmacy computer system, in accordance with provincial regulations
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, labeling, and pricing under pharmacist supervision
• Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously reviewed by the pharmacist for therapeutic appropriateness
• Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions in both prescription and over-the-counter medications
• Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
• Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the computerized system
• Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and OTC products; maintain a clean and merchandised department at all times

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who is fully licensed and ready to contribute from day one. The ideal applicant brings both technical pharmacy knowledge and strong member service skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy retail pharmacy setting. Candidates with existing Costco Pharmacy experience will be given preference.

• Provincial Pharmacy Technician Certification — completed through a Community College program or equivalent
• Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Exam — must be completed
• Licensed Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the province of Ontario
• Computer proficiency for pharmacy management systems and patient record entry
• Math skills for accurate medication counting and transaction processing
• Member/patient service skills — courteous, prompt, and professional communication
• Attention to confidentiality — ability to preserve patient privacy in compliance with provincial standards
