Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Registered Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in keeping the pharmacy running smoothly. From prescription preparation to inventory management and patient interaction, every task contributes directly to member safety and satisfaction.

  • Assist patients at the pharmacy counter, receive written prescriptions, retrieve filled prescriptions, and direct members to product locations
  • Process register transactions including cash, cheques, credit, and debit payments with accuracy
  • Obtain and maintain confidential patient medical histories and update profiles in the pharmacy computer system as permitted by provincial regulations
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, labelling, and pricing under pharmacist supervision
  • Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously reviewed for therapeutic appropriateness by the pharmacist
  • Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions in both prescription and over-the-counter medications
  • Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed, and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
  • Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the computerized system
  • Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and OTC products; perform roaming and department stocking duties

Requirements / Skills

This position requires candidates to be fully licensed and in good standing as a Pharmacy Technician in Ontario. Costco values technicians who combine technical pharmacy knowledge with genuine member service skills — and prior Costco pharmacy experience is a real asset here.

  • Provincial Pharmacy Technician certification — either through a Community College program or equivalent, plus the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada Qualifying Exam
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the province of employment (Ontario)

  • Math proficiency for accurate counting, pricing, and transaction processing
