Process Improvement Engineering Student – Canadian Tire – Toronto, ON
Location: Toronto, ON | Company: Canadian Tire
Canadian Tire Corporation is looking for a Process Improvement Engineering Student to join their team in Toronto, Ontario for a 4-month Fall 2026 co-op term. If you’re the kind of student who enjoys untangling complex systems, spotting patterns, and turning messy processes into clean, logical frameworks, this role is built for you.
The work centres on Canadian Tire’s Atlassian/Jira environment, which has grown a large collection of custom workflows over the years. Your job is to investigate, document, analyze, and ultimately recommend a rationalized model that brings the current maze of workflows down to four standard types. It’s a hands-on, self-directed project with real impact on how the organization manages its IT operations.
About the Role: Process Improvement Engineering Student
Day to day, you’ll be reverse-engineering existing Jira workflows across boards and projects — examining statuses, transitions, conditions, validators, and post-functions to understand how they were originally configured. You’ll translate that knowledge into clear current-state process maps built in Lucidchart, then analyze the full inventory to identify redundancies and consolidation opportunities.
The final deliverable is a proposed future-state model that maps existing workflows to four standardized types, complete with prioritized recommendations, migration considerations, and risk analysis. You’ll present your findings directly to BSA Practice and IT Operations stakeholders, so strong visual and written communication matters as much as your analytical skills.
Benefits and Salary
The broadband salary range for this role is $23.00 – $37.00 CAD per hour, with a typical hiring range of $23.00 – $30.00 per hour. Final compensation depends on your experience and relevant qualifications. Beyond pay, Canadian Tire offers career growth opportunities, product discounts, and access to learning programs through their Triangle Learning Academy.

- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program such as Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Technology Management, or a related discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex systems and identify patterns
- Proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and drive a project forward with minimal supervision
- Proficiency (or quick-learning ability) in Lucidchart for building process flows and diagrams
