Responsibilities
Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Student at Costco Halifax takes on a wide range of duties that support both dispensary operations and patient care. From answering member calls to assisting with clinical initiatives, this role provides meaningful, practical experience across multiple areas of community pharmacy practice.
- Triage and respond to member phone calls and direct members to appropriate products or staff
- Collect patient information and accurately enter prescriptions into the pharmacy software system (Kroll preferred) under pharmacist supervision
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock, counting medications, and labelling — always following safety and security procedures
- Alert the pharmacist of drug interactions, patient concerns, or any issues that require professional review
- Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions promptly and courteously
- Communicate with patients regarding OTC products under pharmacist supervision, referring appropriately when needed
- Support medication review programs by identifying and recruiting eligible patients
- Assist in developing and running Costco Pharmacy’s Health Promotion Clinics alongside the pharmacist
- Maintain pharmacy organization by helping stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise, and keeping the space clean
