Responsibilities
This position covers a broad range of clinical and operational duties within Costco’s optical department. You’ll serve as the primary licensed professional on the floor, ensuring every member receives accurate, attentive care from start to finish.
- Assist members in selecting frames, sunglasses, contact lenses, and ophthalmic lens options suited to their prescriptions
- Measure pupillary distance accurately using a pupilometer or ruler and determine correct multifocal and bifocal heights
- Examine eyes with a slit lamp to assess general ocular health and support contact lens fittings
- Process member orders in the computer system and place special orders with outside vendors by phone
- Verify and dispense completed eyeglasses and contact lenses by checking against the prescription prior to dispensing
- Fit and adjust eyeglasses using a frame warmer and manual adjustments to ensure proper fit
- Handle transactions including cash, cheque, credit, and debit payments in accordance with proper procedures
- Maintain contact lens trial inventory and stock optical merchandise and supplies according to department standards
- Oversee apprentices and students as required to support their certification qualifications
- Maintain active provincial licensing to ensure good standing within the provincial order
- Keep the department clean and uphold a high standard of health care cleanliness at all times
