About the Role: Pharmacist

Responsibilities
The day-to-day work of a Costco Pharmacist blends clinical practice with member-focused service. You’ll be expected to manage a high volume of prescriptions accurately while also engaging patients in meaningful health conversations and expanded scope activities permitted under Nova Scotia pharmacy regulations.
- Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels accurately and efficiently
- Review prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, including drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosing, and dosage form
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and take verbal prescriptions as required
- Select therapeutic substitutions when clinically appropriate
- Educate patients on proper medication use and answer questions about over-the-counter products
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems
- Conduct full medication reviews, best possible medication histories, and medication reconciliation
- Administer medications by injection and order and communicate laboratory tests as permitted by provincial regulations
- Recruit and lead patients through health and wellness clinics, documenting interventions as permitted
- Adapt, extend, and modify prescriptions under prescriber delegation or collaboration per provincial scope
- Maintain confidential patient records and oversee collection of patient medical histories
- Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager, supervising interns and students
- Participate in a culture of patient safety by reporting and managing prescription incidents appropriately
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and required certifications
Requirements / Skills
