Pharmacist – Costco – Burlington, ON

Costco’s pharmacy in Burlington, Ontario is looking for a licensed Pharmacist to join its team at 1225 Brant Street. About the Role: Pharmacist

As a Pharmacist at Costco Burlington, you’ll be responsible for the full spectrum of dispensary operations and patient care. From verifying prescriptions and checking for drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dose, and frequency, to adapting and extending prescriptions under provincial authority, the scope of this role is broad. You’ll also act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager, overseeing smooth dispensary operations and supervising pharmacy interns and students.

Patient safety is central to everything. You’ll participate in a culture of patient safety focused on reducing and eliminating prescription incidents, maintaining confidential patient records, and collaborating closely with your Registered Technician to ensure work is appropriately allocated. Maintaining professional competence through continuing education and keeping all required certifications in good standing is also expected.

Responsibilities

This role covers a wide range of clinical and operational duties within the Costco Pharmacy dispensary. From direct patient care to administrative oversight, every responsibility contributes to delivering safe, high-quality pharmacy services to members.

• Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels
• Check prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for therapeutic appropriateness, including drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dose, frequency, and dosage form
• Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed and take verbal prescriptions; select therapeutic substitutions when appropriate
• Oversee the collection of patient medical history and maintenance of confidential computer records
• Educate patients on proper medication usage; answer questions about over-the-counter products; preserve patient confidentiality
• Collaborate with other health care professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems
• Recruit patients for and conduct health and wellness clinics, documenting interventions where permitted by provincial regulations
• Adapt, extend, and modify prescriptions and perform specific acts under the delegation or collaboration of a prescriber, to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
• Administer medications by injection where permitted by provincial regulations
• Conduct full medication reviews, including best possible medication histories, medication reconciliation, and medication therapy management with patient follow-up
• Order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
• Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager, ensuring smooth dispensary operations and supervising pharmacy interns and students
• Maintain professional competence through continuing education initiatives and keep required certifications in good standing

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is a licensed pharmacist who is comfortable practising across the expanded scope of pharmacy practice in Ontario. You bring strong patient care instincts, solid clinical knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively in a busy retail pharmacy setting.

• Education: Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy required
• Licensure: Licensed Pharmacist in good standing in the province of work
• Computer skills: Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems for dispensing and patient record management
• Math skills: Accuracy in dosage calculations and prescription verification
• Patient care and member service skills: Ability to provide prompt, courteous, and confidential care
• French language (Quebec locations): Candidates applying to Quebec locations must be able to communicate in French, both oral and written
