Cake Decorator – Costco – Windsor, ON

Costco’s bakery department in Windsor, Ontario is looking for a skilled Cake Decorator to join the team at their Walker Road location. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys working with food, and can consistently deliver high-quality, beautifully finished products for members.

From frosting and filling to piping detailed designs and personalised messages, the Cake Decorator position is central to the bakery’s daily operation. You’ll be working with pastry bags, spatulas, and decorating tips to bring member special orders and standard production cakes to life — all while following Costco’s established formulas and quality standards.

About the Role: Cake Decorator

As a Cake Decorator at Costco Windsor, your primary focus is producing finished cakes that meet both aesthetic and quality standards. You’ll frost, fill, garnish, and decorate cakes according to Costco formulas and member special order instructions, ensuring every product leaving your station looks and tastes the part. Tasks range from slicing half-sheet cakes and applying layered fillings to using a whipping cream machine and slicing fresh fruit for garnish.

Keeping your decorating area clean, following all food safety and security procedures, and providing prompt, courteous service to members are all part of the daily routine. You’ll also assist with other bakery duties as needed, and may occasionally support other areas of the warehouse.

Responsibilities

The Cake Decorator role is fast-paced and detail-oriented. Each day involves a mix of production work and member-facing service, requiring both technical decorating skill and the ability to follow precise formulas and special order instructions consistently.

• Frost and fill cakes using a spatula, applying filling between layers and garnishing by hand
• Decorate and write messages on cakes using pastry bags with various tips to create borders, figures, and personalised text per Costco formulas
• Read and interpret member special orders to determine the correct flavours, colours, decorative patterns, and personalised writing; contact members by telephone when instructions are unclear
• Slice half-sheet cakes by hand using a 16″ knife or with a slicing machine and place on pre-cut cardboard cake pads
• Prepare cheesecakes by removing from baking pans, placing on cake pads, applying toppings with a spatula, and garnishing per Costco formulas
• Operate a whipping cream machine and slice fresh fruit for application to baked products
• Box and transfer cakes by assembling pre-cut cardboard cake boxes, placing cakes inside, and moving racks to the cooler, freezer, or wrapping area
• Maintain cleanliness of the decorating area and follow all safety and security procedures
• Assist with other bakery duties and warehouse areas as needed, while providing prompt and courteous member service

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented, reliable, and capable of producing consistent, high-quality finished products. The ideal applicant will have a background in cake decorating or a related bakery role, though a willingness to learn and follow established procedures is equally important.

• Cake decorating experience is preferred — candidates with this background will be given preference in the selection process
• Food Safety Certification – Level 1 is required on the first day in the position
• High School Diploma or GED is preferred
• Ability to follow Costco’s formulas, patterns, and department production procedures with consistency and attention to quality
• French language ability (oral and written) is required for candidates applying to Quebec locations — not applicable for Windsor but worth noting if applying to multiple locations
