Optical Student – Costco – Brampton, ON

Costco’s optical department in Brampton, Ontario is looking for an Optical Student to join their team at the 100 Biscayne Crescent location. This is a hands-on role for someone currently registered in an applicable college program and holding a current provincial licence — a great entry point into the optical industry with real-world experience serving members every day.

In this position, you’ll work directly with members to help them find the right eyeglass frames and lens options, process orders and payments, and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the optical department. Under the supervision of a licensed Optician (where permitted by provincial law), you’ll also gain practical experience fitting and adjusting eyeglasses.

About the Role: Optical Student

The Optical Student role at Costco Brampton covers a range of tasks from member service and order processing to merchandise stocking and department maintenance. You’ll assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options, ensuring every interaction is prompt and courteous. You’ll also ring up orders and over-the-counter merchandise, handling cash, cheques, credit, and debit transactions accurately and according to established procedures.

Department upkeep is a shared responsibility — you’ll be expected to stock merchandise and supplies, follow department standards for record keeping, merchandising, and product storage, and keep the space clean and organized. Teamwork is central to this role, and you may also be asked to assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed.

Responsibilities

The day-to-day work of an Optical Student at Costco Brampton is varied and member-focused. From helping people choose the right frames to maintaining a clean and organized department, each responsibility contributes to a positive member experience and a well-run optical operation.

• Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options with prompt, courteous service
• Process orders and over-the-counter merchandise; handle cash, cheques, credit, and debit payments accurately
• Fit and adjust eyeglasses using a frame warmer and manual bending, under the supervision of a licensed Optician where permitted by provincial law
• Order equipment, merchandise, and supplies by entering data into the computer system
• Stock merchandise and supplies following department procedures for production, record keeping, merchandising, and product storage
• Clean the department through spraying, wiping, and mopping; empty trash and operate the trash compactor and cardboard bailer
• Follow safety and security procedures at all times
• Assist in other areas of the warehouse as required

Requirements / Skills

This role is designed for students currently enrolled in an optical program at an applicable college. The right candidate is someone who is service-minded, reliable, and eager to apply their studies in a real retail environment. A current provincial licence is required to be considered.

• Current Provincial Licence required along with registration in an applicable college program
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Member service skills — ability to assist customers in a courteous and efficient manner
• Basic cash handling — comfort processing various payment types accurately
• Attention to detail — especially when fitting eyeglasses and managing inventory records
• French language proficiency (oral and written) required for candidates applying to Quebec locations
