About the Role: Financial Analyst, Margin Accounting

This is a hands-on role that blends technical accounting expertise with analytical problem-solving. You’ll be preparing and analyzing significant journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of the monthly close process, covering a range of margin areas including CTR/Party City margin sharing, Dealer in Transit, Petroleum brand fees, and Sherwood warranty programs, among others.

Beyond the month-end close, you’ll be expected to investigate variances, identify trends, and present actionable insights to management. Collaboration is central to this role — you’ll work closely with FP&A, Accounting, and internal and external auditors, while also contributing to process improvement initiatives that drive automation and standardization across the team.

Canadian Tire offers a broadband salary range of $53,000 to $88,000 CAD, with a typical hiring range between $53,000 and $70,000, depending on experience, internal equity, and role-specific requirements. Responsibilities

As a Financial Analyst in Margin Accounting, your day-to-day work will centre on maintaining the integrity of financial records and delivering meaningful analysis to support business decisions. These responsibilities are critical to ensuring accurate financial reporting and ongoing compliance across a complex, multi-program environment.

  • Prepare and analyze significant journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules during the monthly close process across various margin areas
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS requirements by accurately recording all financial results
  • Investigate variances, identify trends, and present insights and recommendations to management
  • Maintain and enhance accounting models, reconciliations, and reporting processes
  • Collaborate with business teams, FP&A, Accounting, and internal and external auditors to support reporting requirements
  • Support audits, new business initiatives, and cross-functional projects
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and drive efficiencies through automation and standardization
  • Manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Take ownership of issues, investigate root causes, and independently develop practical solutions

Requirements / Skills

  • University degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation (or actively working towards completion)

  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with an ability to see the big picture while maintaining attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships across teams
