About the Role: Engineering and Operations Technician (EOT)

As an EOT at AWS, you’ll serve as the frontline technical resource responsible for the maintenance and reliability of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems within the data centre. The equipment you oversee supports mission-critical servers, meaning the stakes are high and your expertise is essential. You’ll manage colocation providers and contractors, ensuring that all work aligns with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you’ll also take a leadership role in new build and expansion projects, conduct root cause analyses following operational incidents, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. This position requires obtaining and maintaining an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada, and bilingualism in French and English is mandatory given the global and cross-provincial scope of the role.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary for this position in Pointe-Claire, QC ranges from $91,700 to $118,300 CAD annually. As part of Amazon’s total compensation approach, the offer may also include signing bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs). Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be managing complex infrastructure systems that directly support Amazon’s cloud availability. From vendor oversight and incident response to rack installation and expansion projects, every responsibility contributes to ensuring the data centre operates without interruption. Here’s a closer look at what the day-to-day entails:

• Serve as the primary business interface with colocation provider technical and facility teams to address day-to-day operational requirements within the Availability Zone (AZ)
• Supervise on-site contractors and colocation providers to ensure all work complies with established practices, procedures, and local legislation
• Manage colocation suppliers for routine and emergency maintenance of critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, CRAHs, and building monitoring systems
• Generate and manage change management requests and incident management tickets for data centre facilities
• Respond promptly to on-call emergency situations such as power failures or natural disasters, and refine Emergency Operations Procedures accordingly
• Conduct root cause analyses for operational incidents in collaboration with the colocation provider and contractors
• Establish and maintain comprehensive English-language documentation for business and facility operations
• Lead rack installation and conduct space, power, and cooling assessments
• Lead new build and expansion projects through design, implementation, and commissioning phases to improve operational efficiency
• Maintain accurate infrastructure inventory through internal dashboards and matrices
• Assist in internal recruitment including conducting interviews and supporting new employee onboarding

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with critical facility infrastructure and a strong technical foundation in electrical systems. • Knowledge of electrical systems used in critical data centre operations, including utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA/VRLA batteries, diesel/gas turbine generators, surge suppression, active harmonic filtering, battery monitoring, branch circuit monitoring, and/or SCADA systems
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in facility management and infrastructure equipment operation and maintenance in critical facilities such as data centres, operation factories, substations, or hospitals
• Experience in major facilities incident management — responding to and resolving critical operational events
• Bilingualism in French and English (both written and spoken) is required, given the global and cross-provincial scope of the role
• Reliability Status security clearance from the Government of Canada — must be obtained and maintained
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative while also being a collaborative team player
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
