Electrical Colocation Regional Engineer – Amazon – Montreal, QC

Amazon Web Services is looking for an Electrical Colocation Regional Engineer to join its Colocation Regional Engineering – AMER team based in Montreal, Quebec. This is a technically demanding role at the intersection of data centre engineering, infrastructure assessment, and cross-functional collaboration — ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in complex, mission-critical environments.

In this role, you’ll be working across internal AWS teams and with external colocation vendors to assess, select, and improve data centre facilities across the Americas. You’ll influence the direction of AWS’s global colocation data centre portfolio, help shape product standards, and identify design or operational gaps before they impact capacity or availability. About the Role: Electrical Colocation Regional Engineer

The core of this position revolves around site assessments, risk analysis, and infrastructure evaluation for vendor-owned and operated colocation data centres. You’ll review vendor critical infrastructure designs and apply AWS standards to determine whether a facility is fit for use across AWS cloud compute and networking services. This includes critical electrical, mechanical, structural, fire suppression, and controls systems.

Collaboration is central to the role — you’ll work alongside engineering, operations, and commissioning teams to test and validate system performance, and partner with business development, data scientists, and legal/compliance stakeholders to ensure facilities meet federal, provincial, and municipal codes. Travel to data centre sites is required, up to 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary range for this position is $60,700 to $101,300 CAD annually. As part of Amazon’s total compensation approach, the final offer may also include sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs), depending on experience, qualifications, and work location. Responsibilities

This role carries significant responsibility across both technical assessments and cross-team collaboration. The Electrical Colocation Regional Engineer is expected to lead site evaluations, drive vendor design reviews, and ensure AWS infrastructure standards are met consistently across the AMER region. Here’s a breakdown of key day-to-day responsibilities:

• Lead site assessments against AWS standards for colocation data centres, legacy facility upgrades, and capital improvement initiatives
• Review vendor critical infrastructure designs and perform risk analysis and availability calculations to determine fit-for-use for AWS cloud and networking services
• Investigate and document root-cause failure analysis associated with infrastructure and equipment failures
• Influence AWS design and specification requirements to align with business needs for colocation products
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and commissioning teams to test and validate the performance of critical electrical, mechanical, fire suppression, controls, and structural systems
• Ensure regulatory compliance by working with vendors and local agencies having jurisdiction at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels
• Support Operations and data science teams with utilization, efficiency, and performance analysis on critical infrastructure systems
• Travel to data centre sites as required — up to 50% of the time, domestically and internationally

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is seeking a well-rounded engineer with deep expertise in critical environment infrastructure and a demonstrated ability to work across technical and business functions. Candidates who are bilingual in French and English are required for this role, given the nature of cross-regional collaboration. Strong leaders with solid MEPS design engineering backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

• Engineering degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related discipline — or 10 years of equivalent industry or military experience in lieu of a degree
• 5+ years of focused experience in data centre or carrier-class telecommunications design, engineering, and/or operations and maintenance of critical environment infrastructure
• Bilingualism in French and English is required due to interactions with Amazon entities globally and with employees and stakeholders across Canadian provinces
• Master’s degree in engineering is preferred
• 10+ years of cumulative data centre design experience is an asset
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation is preferred
• Project management experience (PMP or PMI certification) is considered an asset
