Data Center Technician – Google – Toronto, ON

About the Role: Data Center Technician

As a Data Center Technician at Google Toronto, you’ll be embedded within the Technical Infrastructure team — the group responsible for building and maintaining the platforms that make Google’s entire product portfolio possible. Your work will span hardware deployment, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and end-of-life equipment management. You’ll handle physical tasks like rack installation and component replacement, as well as technical work involving networking protocols, Linux system administration, and server configuration.

Given the nature of data centre operations, this role requires the ability to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays on a shift-based schedule. It also requires candidates to obtain or currently hold a valid Reliability Status security clearance from the Government of Canada. This screening is a condition of employment, and failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate clearance may affect your eligibility for the position.

Benefits and Salary

The listed salary range is $100,000 – $102,000 CAD, plus a 15% bonus target, equity (granted through Alphabet Inc.), and a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be doing meaningful, hands-on work that directly supports Google’s global infrastructure. • Deploy and operate new data centre infrastructure across multiple teams
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex equipment and infrastructure issues, reporting problems and applying the right resources to resolve them
• Maintain data security and integrity, tracking media and ensuring all data is handled in accordance with Google’s security standards
• Disassemble and manage end-of-life equipment through part replacement or maintenance processes
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on servers, machines, and infrastructure independently, drawing on multiple solutions as needed
• Configure advanced components including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, and switches using relevant networking protocols
• Participate in or lead small project teams during larger installations, including developing contingency plans

Requirements / Skills

Google is looking for a technically well-rounded candidate with a solid foundation in hardware troubleshooting, Linux systems, and networking. Beyond technical skills, this role calls for someone physically capable of handling demanding installation work, adaptable to shift-based scheduling, and dependable enough to work within a high-security environment.

• Component-level repair experience — hands-on experience diagnosing and fixing technical equipment at the hardware level
• Operating system and hardware troubleshooting — ability to diagnose issues across computer and server hardware
• Networking protocols knowledge — practical understanding of how networks operate
• Linux system administration — experience managing Linux-based environments
• Physical fitness requirements — ability to lift/move 50 lbs (23 kg) and sustain physical effort over extended periods, including bending, kneeling, climbing, and pushing/pulling
• Flexible scheduling — willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and shift-based hours as required
• Government of Canada Reliability Status — ability to obtain or currently holding a valid security clearance (required condition of employment)
