About the Role: Data Center Technician

As a Data Center Technician with AWS, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the overall availability and reliability of data centre operations. This includes performing computer hardware and network diagnostics, carrying out physical repairs, and installing new equipment. You’ll also produce technical documentation and contribute innovative solutions to complex problems within the data centre. The role may include participation in an on-call rotation.

Success in this role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to prioritize and respond quickly to high-severity events are essential. You’ll be expected to coordinate with various internal data centre teams as well as third-party vendors and contractors. Please note that candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance as a condition of employment, which requires five years of continuous Canadian residency.

Responsibilities

Working in a round-the-clock data centre environment, the Data Center Technician plays a critical role in keeping AWS infrastructure running smoothly. From responding to high-severity incidents to building and maintaining server racks, every task contributes to the reliability that AWS customers rely on globally.

  • Provide onsite coverage as part of a team through scheduled shifts and/or weekly on-call rotations
  • Respond to high-severity events within defined service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Participate in data centre power and cooling events, ensuring infrastructure stability
  • Perform break-fix maintenance on servers and network devices to restore operations quickly
  • Troubleshoot network connections and diagnose hardware or connectivity issues
  • Coordinate and build relationships with various internal data centre teams
  • Interact with third-party vendors and contractors during maintenance and repair activities
  • Produce technical documentation and contribute innovative solutions to operational challenges
  • Support team development by contributing to the growth and training of fellow technicians
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, with group lifts for 41+ pounds

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical experience with computer hardware and networking, combined with the ability to stay organized and communicate clearly in a high-pressure environment.   • 1+ year of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and physical repair
  • 1+ year of network and operating system support experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational credential
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English (both written and spoken) as required for interaction with global and Canadian stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain a Canadian Personnel Security Clearance, including five years of continuous Canadian residency
  • Capacity to work in a 24/7 environment with shift work and on-call availability
  • Experience in data centre environments (rack building, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Linux or similar operating systems and familiarity with network design and protocols is preferred
