Data Center Operations Technician (DCEO) – Amazon – Montreal, QC

Montreal’s tech infrastructure is at the heart of one of the world’s most ambitious cloud platforms — and Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a skilled Data Center Operations Technician (DCEO) to help keep it running. This is a hands-on, technically demanding role where your expertise in electrical and mechanical systems directly supports the uptime of mission-critical infrastructure serving customers across the globe.

In this position, you’ll be the front-line technical resource inside an AWS data centre in Montreal, Quebec, responsible for the continuous reliability of systems that power some of the world’s most important cloud workloads. From monitoring power and cooling alarms to coordinating vendor maintenance and supporting equipment commissioning, every shift matters.

About the Role: Data Center Operations Technician

The Data Center Operations Technician is responsible for the maintenance and reliability of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centre. The infrastructure you’ll oversee includes standby diesel generators, fuel systems, switchboards and switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, AHUs, CRAHs, CRACs, pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and building automation systems — equipment that must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

Beyond maintaining equipment, this role calls for innovative thinking to reduce operational costs and improve facility performance. You’ll work closely with vendor teams, support fellow technicians, and respond as a first responder when electrical or mechanical issues threaten Amazon’s service availability. This position also requires that the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Benefits and Salary

AWS offers a competitive starting wage of $36.00 to $46.00 CAD per hour for this role in Montreal. Total compensation may also include shift differentials, overtime pay, and performance bonuses where applicable — with the final rate determined by shift selection, work location, and experience. Responsibilities

Day-to-day work in this role centres on keeping data centre infrastructure running flawlessly. You’ll be monitoring, maintaining, and responding across a wide range of electrical and mechanical systems — all while collaborating with vendors and your teammates to uphold the highest standards of operational reliability.

• Monitor alarms and systems managing power, cooling, and fire suppression throughout the data centre
• Coordinate vendor work on-site to ensure equipment maintenance and system uptime are preserved
• Support other teams and sites during planned maintenance events and operational works
• Install server racks and power up equipment as part of regular infrastructure deployment
• Facilitate the commissioning and handover of new data centre equipment
• Mentor and share technical knowledge with new team members
• Participate in incident response drills to maintain readiness for real-world electrical and mechanical issues

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in electrical or mechanical systems, along with the ability to stay calm and effective in a high-availability environment. • 1+ year of electrical or mechanical experience — hands-on work with power, cooling, or related systems
• 1+ year of Microsoft Office experience (or minimum 6 months) for documentation and reporting
• Eligibility for Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada — required for this role
• 2+ years of data centre engineering experience (preferred)
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (preferred)
• Professional Engineering registration or experience in design review incorporating electrical, mechanical, or automation control solutions (preferred)
