About the Role: Cake Decorator

Responsibilities

Day-to-day work in this role revolves around producing high-quality decorated cakes for both regular sales stock and member special orders. You’ll work independently and alongside the broader bakery team, following Costco’s established formulas and production procedures to ensure every cake meets the mark.

  • Frost and fill cakes using a spatula, ensuring even layers and a polished finish
  • Decorate cakes by creating borders, figures, and personalized writing using pastry bags and various tips
  • Read and fulfill member special orders, selecting the appropriate flavours, colours, and decorative patterns
  • Slice half-sheet cakes by hand or with a slicing machine and place them on pre-cut cardboard pads
  • Prepare cheesecakes by removing from pans, applying toppings, and garnishing per Costco formulas
  • Slice fresh fruit for application to baked products
  • Operate the whipping cream machine and other bakery equipment
  • Box and rack finished cakes, then transfer them to the cooler, freezer, or wrapping area
  • Maintain cleanliness of the decorating area and adhere to all safety and security procedures
  • Provide courteous service to members and assist with other bakery duties as needed

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working in a production bakery environment. Prior experience with cake decorating is a definite asset and will be given preference during the selection process.

  • Cake decorating experience is preferred and will be prioritized over other candidates
  • Food Safety Certification – Level 1 is required from the first day in the position
