Costco’s pharmacy in Kitchener, Ontario is looking for a licensed Pharmacist to join the team at their 4438 King Street East location. This is a role for a regulated health professional who takes pride in delivering thorough, patient-centred care and working at the full expanded scope of pharmacy practice permitted under Ontario regulations.
Day to day, you’ll be dispensing medications, collaborating with prescribers and other health professionals, conducting medication reviews, and running health and wellness clinics — all while keeping patient safety and confidentiality at the forefront of everything you do.
About the Role: Pharmacist
As a Costco Pharmacist, your work spans far beyond filling prescriptions. You’ll be checking for drug interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic appropriateness, verifying prescriptions with physicians, and selecting therapeutic substitutions when clinically appropriate. You’ll also educate patients on proper medication use and provide attentive, courteous service to every member who walks up to the counter.
You’ll work collaboratively with Registered Pharmacy Technicians, oversee pharmacy interns and students, and step into the Pharmacist-In-Charge role in the absence of the pharmacy manager. Responsibilities
The Pharmacist at Costco carries a broad scope of clinical and operational responsibilities. From verifying and dispensing prescriptions to conducting comprehensive medication therapy management, your daily work directly impacts the health outcomes of Costco members in the Kitchener community.
- Dispense prescription medications and apply appropriate auxiliary labels with accuracy
- Review prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness including drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dose, frequency, and dosage form
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and accept verbal orders as needed; select therapeutic substitutions where appropriate
- Oversee the collection of patient medical history and maintain confidential computer records
- Collaborate with other health care professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems, and educate patients on proper medication use
- Recruit and conduct health and wellness clinics, documenting interventions as permitted by provincial regulations
- Adapt, extend, and modify prescriptions and perform specific acts under prescriber delegation or collaboration as permitted
- Administer medications by injection where permitted under provincial regulations
- Conduct full medication reviews including best possible medication histories, medication reconciliation, and patient follow-up
- Order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Champion a culture of patient safety by implementing practices that reduce prescription incidents and properly managing those that occur
- Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the pharmacy manager’s absence and supervise pharmacy interns and students
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for a fully licensed Pharmacist in good standing in the province of Ontario. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical knowledge, solid patient care instincts, and the interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with both patients and fellow health professionals.
- Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy from an accredited institution required
- Licensed Pharmacist in good standing in the Province of Ontario
- Computer skills to support electronic dispensing and confidential patient records management
- Math proficiency for accurate dosage calculations and prescription verification
- Patient care and member service skills — courteous, clear communication with patients is essential
- No prior pharmacy practice experience is required; new graduates are welcome to apply
