About the Role: Supervisor, Letter Carrier or Plant Operations
As a Supervisor on a relief basis, you’ll be accountable for the safe and efficient management of mail processing operations within your assigned area. Your primary focus will be ensuring that plant operating targets, service standards, and production goals are consistently met during your assigned shift. This means balancing staffing levels, monitoring workloads in real time, and making sound operational decisions that ripple across the entire facility.
This role also carries significant people leadership responsibilities. Responsibilities
As a Plant or Letter Carrier Operations Supervisor, your day-to-day work spans operational planning, workforce management, safety oversight, and administrative reporting. Each shift demands both strategic thinking and on-the-ground responsiveness, as you coordinate people and processes to keep mail moving on time.
- Develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly operational plans to meet processing targets, service commitments, and staffing requirements
- Monitor staffing and workload continuously throughout each shift, making real-time adjustments that account for plant-wide impact
- Promote workplace health and safety by coaching employees on safe practices, conducting inspections, investigating incidents, and following up on unsafe conditions
- Oversee return-to-work and accommodation programs for employees unable to perform their full range of duties, including participation in case review committees
- Lead and coach employees by providing guidance and direction, fostering a respectful and productive workplace environment
- Administer HR processes including staffing, performance management, disability management, attendance management, and first-level grievance handling
- Evaluate operational methods and recommend process improvements to optimize efficiency, implementing approved changes and communicating with support groups
- Analyze productivity reports daily to identify trends and issues, sharing findings and key indicator results with the team
- Communicate shift-to-shift by briefing incoming and outgoing supervisors on key activities and anomalies from each shift
- Respond promptly to equipment failures, adjust workflows to meet deadlines, and prepare reports for Production Control and Reporting
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and leave records to ensure employees receive correct and timely pay, resolving data discrepancies as needed
Requirements / Skills
Canada Post is seeking candidates who bring both supervisory experience and the ability to operate effectively in a unionized, shift-based environment. The ideal candidate is organized, people-focused, and comfortable making decisions under pressure while keeping service quality and safety front of mind.
- High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED); equivalent experience may be considered in lieu
- Minimum 1 year of team management experience, OR a minimum of 2 years working within a unionized environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including an understanding of the core features of each application
- Post-secondary degree or diploma is considered an asset
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with employees, Labour Relations, union representatives, and cross-functional support teams
- Language requirement: English Essential
