About the Role: Space Planning Team Lead
As the Space Planning Team Lead, you’ll take ownership of the strategic utilization of in-store space in alignment with merchandising priorities and customer insights. You’ll create and approve retail floor plans and planograms that reflect Line of Business priorities, optimize linear resources, and meet both financial and operational metrics. A key part of the mandate includes supporting new Concept stores and Private Label Brand programs, as well as maintaining the Retail City CTR lab store with the latest assortments.
As a people leader, you’ll be responsible for the growth and development of your team — setting clear objectives, offering ongoing coaching and development, and fostering collaboration across internal stakeholder groups. You’ll work closely with cross-functional committees like Physical Store and conduct post mortems with Category teams to continuously improve program outcomes.
Benefits and Salary
The broadband salary range for this position is $64,000 – $106,000 CAD, with a typical hiring range between $65,000 and $75,000 depending on experience, internal equity, and industry benchmarks. Responsibilities
The Space Planning Team Lead plays a central role in shaping how Canadian Tire’s retail space performs — from the macro-level floor plan down to individual planogram placement. Each responsibility is designed to connect merchandising strategy with real in-store results, making this a role where your decisions have direct commercial impact.
- Lead space utilization efforts in-store, aligned with merchandising strategic priorities, store formats, market data, and customer insights
- Create retail floor plans that accurately translate Line of Business priorities with factual space allocation and planogram placement
- Drive planogram productivity across the organization to ensure linear resources are appropriately allocated and optimized for sales and margin
- Manage a team of Space Planning Specialists to deliver timely, accurate, and visually appealing planograms and out-of-department visual presentation programs
- Support new Concept stores and Private Label Brand programs through effective space planning and visual merchandising execution
- Collaborate with internal groups and committees such as Physical Store to gather program feedback and conduct post mortems with Category teams
- Maintain the Retail City CTR lab store, ensuring it is well merchandised and current with the latest assortments
- Sign off on all planograms to confirm that financial and operational metrics, as well as visual merchandising standards, are met
Requirements / Skills

- Post-secondary education in Retail Management or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience with a proven record of team development and results-focused management

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable plans
- Working knowledge of retail space management tools, particularly JDA/Blue Yonder Space Planning or Spaceman
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
- Knowledge of Canadian Tire merchandising philosophies and store environments is considered a strong asset
