About the Role: Software Development Engineer Intern, Robotics
As an SDE Intern on the Amazon Robotics team, you’ll be matched with both a manager and a mentor who will guide your project work throughout the term. You’ll contribute to scalable distributed systems, cloud architectures, and robotics-integrated software that powers Amazon’s fulfilment operations globally. The scope of work spans areas like computer vision, motion planning, autonomous navigation, and machine learning — depending on which Robotics team you’re placed with.
This is a full-time, in-office internship running Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. You’ll be expected to have no scheduling conflicts during Amazon’s core working hours. Candidates must have at least one quarter, semester, or trimester remaining in their academic program after the internship ends.

Responsibilities
Working on Amazon’s Robotics teams, you’ll take on meaningful engineering work — not shadow experience. Your contributions will span the full software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and ongoing operations. Here’s what you can expect to be doing:
- Design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices within large distributed computing environments
- Build and maintain resilient, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective distributed systems
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineers to design, build, and operate products and services that serve Amazon customers
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation
- Leverage and contribute to GenAI and AI-powered development tools while staying current with emerging technologies
- Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and established design patterns
- Work in an agile environment practising CI/CD principles, including participation in on-call operational duties
- Design, develop, and test software components that interact with fulfillment centre technologies such as robotics, material handling equipment, computer vision, and cloud services
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues as part of operational excellence responsibilities
Requirements / Skills

- Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older
- Bachelor’s degree or above (in progress) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field
- Programming language proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript
- Experience with data structures, basic algorithm development, and/or object-oriented design principles
- At least one academic term remaining after the internship/co-op concludes
- Preferred: Prior technical internship or demonstrable project experience
- Preferred: Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms, SQL/NoSQL databases, or open-source contribution
- Preferred: Background or coursework in Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Motion Planning, or Autonomous Navigation
