Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll move between retail service and mail operations depending on daily staffing needs. Whether you’re helping a customer at the counter or processing incoming mail, accuracy and efficiency are what keep things moving. Here’s what a typical shift might involve:

  • Deliver customer service at the retail counter to ensure complete customer satisfaction
  • Operate a point-of-sale system and process financial transactions including cash, cheques, debit, and credit card payments
  • Maintain floor displays and carry out merchandising and inventory control activities
  • Stay informed on postal products, services, and delivery knowledge to assist customers effectively
  • Receive, sort, sequence, and batch mail items according to established procedures
  • Operate mail processing equipment, including clearing jams and removing mail from sorting machines
  • Transport mail between floors and sections using rolling or motorized equipment
  • Review mail items for address accuracy and proper postage
  • Key in data using a computer when applicable
  • Handle mail items physically — lifting up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs) and carrying up to 15.9 kg (35 lbs), with bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods
