About the Role: Senior Financial Analyst, Intangible Assets Accounting
As a Senior Financial Analyst within the Intangible Assets Accounting function, you’ll be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting under IFRS. This includes supporting the close process, reviewing journal entries and reconciliations, analyzing variances, and preparing technical accounting memos and position papers. You’ll also provide expert guidance on the capitalization and ongoing accounting for internally developed and acquired intangible assets.
Beyond the technical work, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to finance and business stakeholders, coaching junior analysts and cross-functional partners alike. You’ll help identify process improvement opportunities, strengthen internal controls, and ensure that key documentation supports both internal and external audit requirements. Canadian Tire offers a broadband salary range of $64,000 to $106,000, with a typical hiring range of $85,000 to $95,000 depending on experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be balancing technical financial reporting with meaningful business partnering across Canadian Tire’s family of companies. Your day-to-day work will directly support the integrity of the company’s financial statements and help guide strategic decisions related to intangible asset investments and Information Systems initiatives.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with IFRS
- Analyze variances, business trends, and key performance indicators, communicating findings to management
- Support the close process by reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting analysis
- Provide expert guidance on the capitalization and ongoing accounting for internally developed and acquired intangible assets
- Prepare technical accounting memos and position papers by researching and interpreting relevant accounting standards
- Partner with Information Systems, Procurement, and other business teams to evaluate new initiatives and projects
- Coach and mentor financial analysts and cross-functional partners on technical accounting matters
- Identify and lead process improvement initiatives involving financial models, data analysis, and automation
- Maintain key controls and documentation to support internal control and external audit requirements
- Review work prepared by team members and provide constructive feedback to support accuracy and professional development
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in IFRS accounting combined with the interpersonal skills needed to influence stakeholders and collaborate across a large, complex organization. - University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- CPA designation (or equivalent professional accounting qualification) is required
- Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or a large corporate environment
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with technical accounting analyses and memos; familiarity with intangible asset accounting, software development projects, and contractual arrangements is an asset
- Experience with PeopleSoft, HFM, or other large-scale financial systems is considered an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across functions
