About the Role: Senior Data Scientist, Predictive Modelling
At its core, this position is about building predictive and prescriptive solutions that get embedded into key business decisions. You’ll apply both traditional and machine learning analytics to identify and quantify cause-and-effect relationships, and play a leadership role in delivering the company’s advanced analytics roadmap. The Predictive Modelling team works with a clear mandate: enable best-in-class, data-driven decision making across the enterprise.
Beyond the technical work, you’ll be expected to lead, coach, and influence peers and cross-functional stakeholders. Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Predictive Modelling team, your day-to-day work spans the full analytics lifecycle — from exploratory analysis and model development to production deployment and stakeholder communication. These responsibilities are central to helping Canadian Tire make smarter, faster, and more accurate business decisions.
- Build predictive models using statistical and machine learning techniques to identify sales drivers, quantify causal impacts, and support what-if scenario analysis
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Forecasting, Replenishment, Pricing, Promotions, Allocations, Planning, and IT teams to ensure model outputs align with business expertise and are efficiently integrated into processes
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from long-term implementations and process improvement initiatives to urgent system support issues and ad-hoc analysis requests
- Proactively surface insights supported by data to improve forecast accuracy and inform key business decisions
- Provide leadership and direction to team members, including training and coaching in advanced analytics methodologies
- Serve as subject matter expert for established model implementations and analytical methodologies within the team
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of technical data science skills and business acumen, particularly within retail or supply chain environments. Canadian Tire is looking for someone who communicates complex ideas clearly, leads through influence, and is driven by outcomes rather than just outputs.
- 4+ years of experience in data science, modelling, and analytics — experience in merchandising or supply chain is preferred
- University degree in engineering, math, computer science, statistics, business, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL for data science and analytics work
- Experience with machine learning, data transformation/engineering, data validation, visualization, and end-to-end project productionization
- Cloud computing experience for data science; knowledge of Azure and Databricks is considered an asset
- Proven project and time management skills — planning, prioritizing, executing, delegating, and tracking across multiple workstreams
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Retail industry knowledge and a business mindset that connects analytical work to real commercial outcomes
