About the Role: Senior Data Scientist
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Customer Analytics and Predictive Modelling team, you’ll develop a deep understanding of Canadian Tire’s retail operations, loyalty and credit card customer base, and marketing programs. You’ll be responsible for building robust machine learning models, performing advanced statistical analysis, and establishing the data pipelines needed to deploy AI/ML solutions at scale. Your work will directly support strategic goals across the retail organization.
This position requires strong cross-functional collaboration with business stakeholders throughout the retail organization and peers within the Advanced Analytics and Modelling team. You’ll be expected to scope and structure data science projects while balancing business needs with technical constraints, and to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Benefits and Salary
The typical hiring range for this role is between $32.00/hr and $53.00/hr, depending on experience, skills, and other relevant factors. Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be doing hands-on data science work that spans model development, analytics strategy, and business consulting. Every day involves working with large-scale retail and loyalty data to surface insights that influence real business decisions across Canadian Tire’s organization.
- Develop machine learning and deep learning models to improve customer engagement and marketing program performance
- Perform advanced quantitative and statistical analysis of retail, customer, and loyalty data to identify trends, patterns, and correlations
- Build analytical measurement frameworks using the latest AI/ML technologies to provide timely business insights
- Establish data pipelines required to deploy AI/ML solutions in production environments
- Collaborate in cross-functional teams to generate models and measurement frameworks that improve business practices and generate measurable value
- Scope and structure data science projects while considering business needs and technical constraints
- Provide creative solutions, recommendations, and timely advice that align business needs with modelling concepts
- Contribute actively to the analytics strategy within the Advanced Analytics team
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a strong academic foundation in a quantitative discipline combined with hands-on experience applying data science to retail or loyalty contexts. Canadian Tire values professionals who can bridge the gap between technical complexity and clear business communication.
- M.S. or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
- 3+ years of experience developing and implementing data science solutions for retail businesses or loyalty programs
- Proficiency in Python, Spark, R, or SAS for building and deploying models
- 3+ years of experience querying and analyzing large datasets using SQL, Spark, or similar tools
- Strong background in statistics, optimization, mathematical modelling, and forecasting
- Familiarity with cloud-based data structures; experience with Databricks and Azure Synapse is an asset
- Experience with Git or other version control systems preferred
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical business partners
