Senior Brokerage Representative (Remote) – UPS – Lachine, QC

About the Role: Senior Brokerage Representative

The Senior Brokerage Representative is responsible for applying import/export regulations to accurately classify products and determine eligibility for various regulatory programs tied to international trade. You’ll serve as a key liaison between UPS and government entities, resolving issues related to customs declarations, shipping restrictions, and tax obligations. Your work directly supports the smooth movement of goods across borders for UPS clients worldwide.

This is a detail-oriented, regulation-heavy role that demands strong analytical thinking and proactive communication. You’ll work Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, maintaining a minimum of 40 hours per week, with some flexibility around start and finish times. Bilingual fluency in French and English is required, as roughly half of your client interactions involve contacts outside of Quebec.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Brokerage Representative, your day-to-day centres on applying your expertise in customs classification and trade compliance to support both clients and internal operations. You’ll use established regulatory tools and frameworks to back up classification decisions and keep client product data organized and up to date. These responsibilities are core to ensuring UPS delivers accurate, compliant customs brokerage services.

• Classify products using General Rules of Interpretation (GROI), Explanatory Notes, and CROSS (Customs Rulings Online Search System) to substantiate decisions
• Lead Country of Origin verification projects by contacting suppliers to confirm correct origin information for client products
• Manage and organize product databases and classification records using Microsoft Excel and Access
• Enter product classifications and supporting substantiation into UPS’s proprietary operating system
• Communicate proactively with clients, including educating them on relevant regulatory procedures and compliance requirements
• Act as a liaison between UPS and government entities to resolve issues related to customs declarations, shipping restrictions, and tax payments

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings substantial hands-on experience in customs operations and holds the credentials to back it up. UPS is looking for someone who can work independently in a remote setting while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and regulatory compliance. Strong bilingual communication skills and a detail-focused mindset are essential to succeeding in this role.

• Bilingual proficiency in French and English (written and spoken) — required, given regular interactions with clients outside Quebec
• Minimum 5 years of experience in customs operations — required
• Customs Specialist (CCS) certification — required
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, for managing databases and classification records
• Strong knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection Regulations
• Experience in International Trade, Logistics, or Freight Forwarding — considered an asset
• Previous classification and/or FTA determination experience — preferred
• Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent — preferred
• Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills with strong attention to detail
