About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief carrier, your day revolves around collecting, sorting, and delivering mail items safely and on time across assigned routes. You’ll become familiar with local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles — building valuable knowledge of the Sept-Îles area that makes every route more efficient over time.

You’ll represent Canada Post in the community, wearing official Canada Post identification at all times while on delivery. This role requires a high level of personal accountability, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to adapt to varying weather and traffic conditions. Responsibilities

Each day as an on-call relief mail carrier brings a mix of preparation and time on the road. You’ll be responsible for ensuring every item entrusted to you reaches its destination safely and on schedule, while also handling various Canada Post products and services along the way.

• Sort and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across rural and suburban routes
• Collect mail from customers and delivery points along assigned routes
• Maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles in the Sept-Îles area
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times to prevent loss or damage
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly during all deliveries and collections
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or Class G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Suitable personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s mandatory specifications: minimum 50 cu ft cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and passenger window sill height between 38″–45″ from the ground
• Automobile liability insurance for the use of your vehicle, with your insurer notified of its use for Canada Post deliveries
• Delivery experience and comfort operating a vehicle in diverse weather and traffic conditions
• Residence within 75 km of the Sept-Îles Post Office (preferred)
• French language proficiency — French is essential for this position
