Responsibilities

The Postal Clerk role spans both retail customer service and back-end mail operations. On any given shift, you could be assisting customers at the counter, processing payments, or sorting and moving mail through the facility. These responsibilities are central to keeping Canada Post’s service running smoothly and reliably for communities across the country.

  • Perform sales and customer service activities to ensure complete customer satisfaction at the counter
  • Operate a computer point-of-sale system to process transactions efficiently
  • Process financial transactions including cash, cheques, debit, and credit card payments
  • Maintain floor displays and conduct merchandising and inventory control
  • Receive, sort, sequence, and batch mail items according to established procedures
  • Operate mail processing equipment, including clearing jams and removing mail from sorting machines where applicable
  • Transport mail between floors and sections using rolling or motorized equipment where applicable
  • Review mail items for address accuracy, proper postage, and other requirements
  • Maintain knowledge of postal products, services, and delivery information
  • Handle physical tasks including standing for up to 3.5 hours at a time, and lifting mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs)
