About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief mail carrier, you’ll be responsible for covering delivery routes across various communities as needed. This means quickly learning local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles so you can step in seamlessly. You’ll be handling and sorting a variety of mail and parcel items, processing Canada Post products and services, and ensuring all mail remains secure throughout your route.

This position is classified as safety sensitive, meaning you’ll be expected to uphold Canada Post’s high standards around safe driving and responsible conduct at all times. You’ll be wearing Canada Post identification on every delivery, maintaining the required vehicle insurance, and adhering to all health, safety, and operational guidelines. Responsibilities

As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier on-call with Canada Post, your work will directly impact the daily lives of residents across Palmerston and surrounding communities. From sorting parcels before your route to ensuring every item is securely delivered, your attention to detail and commitment to safe, timely delivery will be the backbone of your day.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and on time across assigned rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times to prevent loss or damage
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly during all deliveries and collections
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
• Operate a motor vehicle safely across all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is self-motivated, physically capable, and has a clean driving record. Canada Post values individuals who can work independently with minimal supervision and who bring a genuine sense of responsibility to every delivery. Prior experience in delivery or driving roles would be a definite asset.

• Valid Class 5 or G provincial driver’s licence — must be a permanent licence in good standing
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s cargo specifications — minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 litres) capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof with accessory power outlet, and appropriate window sill height
• Automobile liability insurance for commercial use of your vehicle, with notification to your insurer regarding Canada Post employment
• Experience making deliveries and operating a vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Residence within 75 km of the Palmerston Post Office (preferred)
