About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief mail carrier, you’ll step in to cover delivery routes as needed, ensuring that Chatsworth-area residents and businesses receive their mail and parcels safely and on time. You’ll develop a solid knowledge of local roads, delivery receptacles, and customers, while processing Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

This role requires you to wear Canada Post identification visibly while on duty and to maintain the highest standards of mail security at all times. You’ll also be responsible for keeping your personal vehicle compliant with Canada Post’s mandatory vehicle requirements, including carrying the appropriate automobile liability insurance. As an on-call employee, there’s also a potential pathway to permanent Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier positions as they become available.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and on time across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the delivery process
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is someone who is self-motivated, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently on assigned rural routes. Canada Post values individuals who demonstrate reliability and a strong commitment to community service. Preference will be given to applicants residing within 75 km of the Chatsworth Post Office.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s mandatory requirements, including a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and appropriate interior dimensions
• Automobile liability insurance covering use of your personal vehicle for mail delivery, with your insurance company notified accordingly
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Physical capability to lift and carry items up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg throughout the workday
