About the Role: Pharmacist
As a Costco Pharmacist in Ajax, you’ll be responsible for dispensing prescription medications, verifying orders, and ensuring every prescription is checked for therapeutic appropriateness — including drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, dosage, and frequency. You’ll take verbal prescriptions, liaise with physicians, and select therapeutic substitutions when clinically appropriate.
You’ll work within a culture of patient safety, following Costco Pharmacy’s policies and provincial regulations at every step. Acting as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager is also part of the scope, including supervising pharmacy interns and students. Responsibilities
The Pharmacist role at Costco Ajax covers a broad scope of clinical and operational duties. - Verify and refill prescriptions with physicians by phone as needed and take verbal prescriptions; select therapeutic substitutions when appropriate
- Oversee the collection of patient medical history and maintenance of confidential computer records
- Collaborate with other health care professionals to identify and resolve drug therapy problems while educating patients on proper medication usage
- Conduct full medication reviews, including best possible medication histories and medication reconciliation, and participate in medication therapy management
- Administer medications by injection and order and communicate laboratory tests to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Recruit patients for and conduct health and wellness clinics, documenting interventions as permitted by provincial regulations
- Adapt, extend, and modify prescriptions and perform specific acts under prescriber delegation or collaboration as permitted
- Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge in the absence of the pharmacy manager and supervise pharmacy interns and students
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and keep required certifications in good standing
- Participate in a culture of patient safety by reducing and eliminating prescription incidents and properly managing those that occur
Requirements / Skills
