Package Handler Trainer – FedEx – Ottawa, Ontario

FedEx Canada is hiring a Package Handler Trainer at its Ottawa facility located at 1201 Logistics Pvt, Ottawa, ON. This is a permanent part-time position that puts you at the centre of daily freight operations — not just handling packages yourself, but teaching others how to do it safely and efficiently.

This role goes beyond the standard package handler duties. You’ll be responsible for training fellow Package Handlers on proper loading, unloading, palletizing, and scanning techniques, while also contributing hands-on to the movement of freight through the facility. It’s a position well-suited to someone who knows the FedEx operation inside and out and is ready to take on a leadership component in their day-to-day work.

About the Role: Package Handler Trainer

As a Package Handler Trainer at FedEx Ottawa, your primary duties cover two areas: hands-on freight handling and peer training. You’ll load and unload freight, perform scanning and sorting tasks, and transport freight within and between facilities. On the training side, you’ll coach other Package Handlers on best practices to keep operations moving safely and on schedule.

The schedule for this role is Tuesday to Saturday, 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM, five shifts per week. Given the early morning hours and the training responsibilities involved, candidates need to be reliable, physically capable, and comfortable working in a fast-moving warehouse and logistics environment. A valid full Class G licence (G2 is not acceptable) and a clean driving record are mandatory for this position.

Responsibilities

In this trainer and handler hybrid role, you’ll split your time between active freight handling and developing the skills of your fellow team members. These responsibilities are central to keeping FedEx’s Ottawa facility running efficiently and safely every shift.

• Train Package Handlers on proper loading, unloading, palletizing, and scanning techniques to ensure safe and efficient package movement
• Load and unload freight within the facility as part of daily operations
• Scan and sort freight accurately to support correct routing and delivery timelines
• Transport freight within and between FedEx facilities as required
• Model safe work practices and reinforce compliance with FedEx Canada operations standards and Canadian Customs regulations
• Support operational efficiency by ensuring trained handlers meet performance and accuracy thresholds

Requirements / Skills

• Minimum 6 months experience as a Package Handler or Cargo Handler — this is a firm requirement to apply
• Valid full Class G driver’s licence required; G2 is not acceptable — must have a good driving record with two or fewer violations/accidents in the past 24 months
• Ability to lift 70 lbs and manoeuvre packages weighing up to 150 lbs using appropriate equipment
• Good interpersonal skills — the ability to communicate clearly and coach peers in a respectful, effective manner
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
• Knowledge of FedEx Canada operations and Canadian Customs regulations (preferred)
• Availability Tuesday to Saturday, 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM — consistent schedule adherence is essential for this role
