About the Role: Maintenance Technician III

As a Maintenance Technician III at FedEx, you’ll work under minimal supervision to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair material handling systems across mechanical, electrical, and PLC/controls domains. Responsibilities

Day to day, this role involves keeping FedEx’s material handling systems operating at peak efficiency. You’ll be on the floor responding to sort calls, conducting planned maintenance, and applying your technical expertise to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues before they impact operations.

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on material handling systems using demonstrated proficiency in mechanical power transmission and electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and PLC/controls failures at both component and system level
  • Interpret schematics and manuals — electrical or mechanical — to diagnose system faults and determine the appropriate repair or escalation path
  • Respond to sort calls to diagnose problems on the floor and execute timely repairs
  • Utilize EAM software to enter and retrieve prescribed maintenance data accurately
  • Adhere to safety standards, attend safety meetings and required trainings, and proactively address all safety concerns
  • Assist lower-level technicians and begin to develop scopes of work and project plans for small-scale local projects
  • Read PLC code and burn EEPROMs as required, with support available from higher-level technicians on complex control systems
  • Work a flexible schedule, including all days and shifts, as business needs dictate; flexibility to work at different sites

Requirements / Skills

FedEx is looking for a technically well-rounded candidate with solid hands-on experience in an industrial maintenance environment. You should be comfortable working independently, communicating technical information clearly, and applying both analytical and practical problem-solving skills across multiple systems.

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics, electrical or mechanical trade, or an associate degree in a related area are preferred
  • Experience: Minimum four (4) years in industrial maintenance with demonstrated skills in mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, and working knowledge of PLC/controls and welding/fabrication
  • Technical aptitude: Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, manufacturer’s manuals, and engineering specifications
  • Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, or PLC/controls issues through troubleshooting at multiple component and system levels, including understanding of engineering formulas
  • Software proficiency: Comfortable with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software, Microsoft Office suite, and other web-based applications
  • Communication and collaboration: Effective verbal and written communication with peers, managers, and outside vendors; ability to collaborate with operations, vendors, and support teams
  • Physical requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat; use of hand tools and power tools; ability to work in hot or cold temperatures
  • Schedule flexibility: Willing and able to work flexible afternoon/night shifts and potentially at different FedEx sites
