Optical Student – Costco – Mississauga, ON

Costco’s optical department in Mississauga, Ontario is looking for an Optical Student to join the team at their 1570 Dundas Street East location. About the Role: Optical Student

As an Optical Student at Costco Mississauga, your primary focus is on delivering attentive member service in the optical department. You’ll assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options, ring up orders and over-the-counter merchandise, and handle payments accurately — including cash, cheques, credit, and debit — following proper cash handling procedures. Where permitted by provincial law and under the supervision of a licensed Optician, you’ll also fit and adjust eyeglasses using a frame warmer and manual adjustments.

Beyond the optical counter, you’ll play an important role in keeping the department organized and well-stocked. This includes ordering merchandise and supplies through the computer system, following safety and security procedures, maintaining proper merchandising and product storage standards, and cleaning the department regularly. You may also be called upon to assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed, making flexibility and teamwork key to success in this position.

Responsibilities

Working in Costco’s optical department means balancing member-facing service with behind-the-scenes department upkeep. Each task contributes to delivering a consistent, quality experience for members picking up or purchasing optical products.

• Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options with prompt, courteous service
• Process transactions by ringing up orders and over-the-counter merchandise, accepting cash, cheques, credit, and debit payments accurately
• Fit and adjust eyeglasses using a frame warmer and manual techniques, where permitted by provincial law and under licensed Optician supervision
• Order supplies and merchandise by entering requests into the computer system
• Stock merchandise and follow department standards for production, record keeping, merchandising, and product storage
• Clean the department through spraying, wiping, mopping, emptying trash, and operating the trash compactor and cardboard bailer
• Follow safety and security procedures at all times
• Support other warehouse areas as required

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for candidates who are actively enrolled in their optical studies and hold the required provincial credentials. The ideal candidate is reliable, member-focused, and comfortable in a fast-paced retail setting.

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Current provincial optical licence required
• Registration with the applicable provincial optical college required
• No prior work experience necessary — this role is designed for students in training
• French language proficiency (oral and written) required for candidates applying to Quebec locations
