Responsibilities
As a Data Science Associate in the Finance Rotational Program, your day-to-day work will span analytical problem-solving, data engineering, and business intelligence across two distinct 12-month rotations. Each rotation is structured to deepen your technical expertise while exposing you to different areas of Canadian Tire’s business, from retail analytics to finance transformation.
- Provide business decision support by delivering subject-matter expertise, analytics, and insights that enable optimal business decisions and resolve complex challenges
- Design and develop complex reports, dashboards, visualizations, and scorecards to support business intelligence and self-serve capabilities using tools like Power BI or Tableau
- Analyze data processes and tools to support the business data strategy, applying a variety of data science techniques to build complex models
- Partner with Finance teams on transformation projects focused on modernizing data processes, reporting infrastructure, and financial model design
- Integrate AI into business processes and develop intelligent agents that automate workflows, surface insights, and deliver actionable recommendations with appropriate testing and oversight
- Identify opportunities to drive business growth and value through data-driven analysis across Merchandising and Finance domains
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams as a key contributor to the Finance Decision Support analytics team
Requirements / Skills
Canadian Tire is looking for graduating students who combine quantitative technical skills with strong communication abilities and a growth mindset. - Undergraduate degree in progress in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Financial Analytics, or a related quantitative field
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of: BI development, data modelling, data engineering, business analytics, AI development, or process automation
- Technical proficiency with SQL, BI tools (Power BI or Tableau), Python or other coding languages, and AI platforms/tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups
- Critical thinking and analytical mindset with the ability to visualize data and drive continuous improvement
- Familiarity with Spark, Azure Cloud Tools, Databricks, Microsoft’s Power Platform, or Copilot Studio is considered an asset
- Project, academic, or work experience in finance, retail, or business is an additional asset
