About the Role: Meat Assistant
As a Meat Assistant, you’ll be responsible for wrapping and labelling meat products using an automatic wrapping machine, stocking refrigerated display cases, and operating a meat grinder. You’ll work with large trays and wheeled racks to move product efficiently through the department while keeping everything organized and properly rotated.
Compliance with health codes and sanitation standards is a core part of this role. You’ll clean and sanitize your work area throughout the day, maintain proper temperatures, and perform routine maintenance on department machinery. Member service is also part of the job — you’ll be expected to provide prompt and courteous assistance to Costco members whenever needed.

Responsibilities
The Meat Assistant role at Costco Scarborough involves a variety of practical tasks carried out in a fast-paced warehouse environment. - Inspect and reassemble equipment that was sanitized the previous night, and rework the display case to rotate product
- Operate the automatic wrapping machine by loading individual packages from large trays on wheeled racks
- Set and adjust the labeller according to product type and price, then apply labels to all wrapped product
- Stock display cases by reaching through sliding windows or repositioning racks to the floor
- Operate the meat grinder, check the fat content of each batch, and follow production procedures for quality and consistency
- Clean and sanitize the work area throughout the day in compliance with health codes and temperature standards
- Perform routine maintenance on department machinery, equipment, and implements
- Provide prompt and courteous member service and assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for someone who is reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a food production environment. Candidates with prior experience in a meat department will have an advantage in the selection process, and a commitment to food safety is non-negotiable from day one.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Food Safety Certification – Level 1 required starting on your first day in the position
- Meat wrapping experience is preferred and will be given priority consideration
- Ability to follow health code compliance, sanitation standards, and proper temperature maintenance
- Comfortable working in a physical, hands-on environment involving heavy trays, wheeled racks, and machinery
