Loss Prevention Clerk – Costco – Scarborough, ON

Scarborough’s Costco location on Warden Avenue is looking for a Loss Prevention Clerk to join their warehouse team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a direct part in protecting company assets, maintaining a safe environment, and working closely with warehouse management and local law enforcement when needed.

Day-to-day, you’ll be on the floor — walking the warehouse and perimeter, keeping a sharp eye on activity, and responding to theft or security concerns as they arise. About the Role: Loss Prevention Clerk

As a Loss Prevention Clerk at Costco Scarborough, your primary focus is safeguarding company assets from both internal and external theft. You’ll conduct active patrols throughout the warehouse and surrounding perimeter for up to eight hours a day, monitoring for safety and security hazards and taking action when necessary. This includes observing, detecting, and apprehending shoplifters, as well as reporting potential internal theft situations to the Warehouse Manager and Regional Loss Prevention Manager.

Beyond active surveillance, you’ll be responsible for preparing reports, maintaining evidence files, and testifying in court when theft investigations proceed to prosecution. You’ll also play a coaching role — sharing loss prevention knowledge, policies, and procedures with other members of the warehouse team. Staying current with Costco procedures and applicable provincial laws is a key part of the job, and you’ll regularly attend meetings and seminars to keep your knowledge up to date.

Responsibilities

Working as a Loss Prevention Clerk at Costco means being on the move and staying alert throughout every shift. You’ll be the eyes and ears of the warehouse, protecting both assets and people while maintaining a professional and legally compliant approach in everything you do.

• Patrol the warehouse and perimeter for up to 8 hours per day to monitor safety and security concerns
• Observe, detect, and apprehend shoplifters within the location, following proper procedures
• Detain and interview shoplifters when warranted, in accordance with applicable laws
• Report potential internal theft situations to the Warehouse Manager and Regional Loss Prevention Manager
• Identify shrink reduction opportunities and communicate findings to management
• Prepare and maintain reports and evidence files for internal use and potential prosecution
• Testify in court regarding theft investigations when required
• Coach and educate warehouse team members on loss prevention topics, policies, and procedures
• Communicate with other area Costco Loss Prevention Clerks and local businesses to share information on current theft threats
• Attend loss prevention meetings and seminars to stay current on best practices and applicable laws

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate with a calm, observant demeanour and a genuine understanding of Canadian criminal law as it applies to theft and fraud. Strong communication skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure are essential for success in this role.

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Valid Loss Prevention Licence as required by the Province of Ontario
• Loss Prevention experience is preferred; candidates with relevant backgrounds will be given priority
• Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada relating to theft and fraud offences, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Trespass Act, and Privacy Acts
• Communication, observation, and problem-solving skills are required
