Meat Assistant – Costco – Saint John, NB

As a Meat Assistant at Costco in Saint John, New Brunswick, you’ll be responsible for a range of production and service tasks within the meat department. Responsibilities

The Meat Assistant role at Costco involves a variety of physical and production tasks that keep the meat department running smoothly each day. From equipment prep at the start of the shift to end-of-day sanitation, you’ll play an essential part in maintaining the quality and safety of products reaching members.

• Inspect and reassemble equipment that was sanitized the previous night, and rework the display case while rotating product
• Operate the automatic wrapping machine by placing individual packages of styro-packaged meat from large wheeled racks into the machine
• Set the labeller according to product type and price, then print and apply labels to each wrapped product
• Stock display cases by reaching through sliding windows or moving wheeled racks to the floor
• Operate the meat grinder, dump meat into the top of the machine, and check the fat content of each batch
• Follow department production procedures and maintain standards for quality and consistency of finished product
• Clean and sanitize the work area throughout the day, maintaining proper temperatures and complying with health code standards
• Perform routine maintenance on machinery, equipment, and implements
• Provide prompt and courteous member service and assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed

Requirements / Skills

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Food Safety Certification – Level 1 is required by the first day in the position
• Meat wrapping experience is preferred; candidates with this background will be given preference
• Ability to follow safety and health code procedures, including sanitation standards and proper temperature maintenance
• Physical capability to handle large trays, operate machinery, and work on your feet throughout the shift
• French language proficiency (oral and written) is required for candidates applying to Quebec locations — not applicable to this Saint John posting, but worth noting for those considering other sites
