About the Role: Manager, Freight Audit

As the Manager, Freight Audit at Canadian Tire, you’ll own the full scope of freight cost validation across inbound and outbound transportation modes — including TL, LTL, parcel, and intermodal. You’ll ensure freight invoices are accurately audited against contracted rates, accessorial charges, fuel surcharges, and service-level agreements, while overseeing exception resolution and recovery of carrier overcharges. Beyond day-to-day operations, you’ll be developing dashboards, KPIs, and executive-level reporting that highlight savings, compliance, and audit effectiveness.

This role carries meaningful responsibility across financial controls and SOX compliance, working closely with Finance to support accrual accuracy, month-end close, and variance analysis. You’ll also lead a team of freight audit professionals — coaching, developing, and holding them accountable in a culture built on continuous improvement and collaboration. Strong stakeholder management skills are equally important, as you’ll be managing relationships with external freight audit vendors and carriers, supporting contract negotiations with audit insights and dispute history.

Canadian Tire offers a broadband salary range of $79,000 to $131,000 CAD, with a typical hiring range of $79,000 to $105,000 CAD depending on experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Responsibilities

This role spans four key domains: freight audit and payment operations, financial controls and compliance, data analytics and continuous improvement, and people leadership. Each area requires both hands-on technical knowledge and the ability to communicate clearly with senior leadership and cross-functional partners. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll be accountable for day to day:

• Own the full freight audit lifecycle, including invoice validation, approval, discrepancy management, and payment across TL, LTL, parcel, and intermodal transportation modes
• Audit freight invoices against contracted rates, accessorial charges, fuel surcharges, and service-level agreements for accuracy
• Oversee exception resolution and root cause analysis, driving recovery of carrier and vendor overcharges
• Establish and maintain audit controls, governance documentation, and compliance with SOX requirements and Canadian Tire financial policies
• Partner with Finance to support accrual accuracy, month-end close processes, and freight spend variance analysis
• Develop dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting that highlight savings, compliance performance, and audit effectiveness
• Lead process improvements and system enhancements including TMS and freight audit tools to drive automation and efficiency
• Manage relationships with external freight audit providers and carriers, including performance reviews and service-level outcomes
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of freight audit professionals, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability

Requirements / Skills

Canadian Tire is looking for a candidate who brings a strong combination of transportation finance expertise, data analytics capability, and proven people leadership experience. The ideal person is equally comfortable digging into freight cost data as they are presenting findings to executive stakeholders and navigating complex cross-functional relationships.

• Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or supply chain designation is considered an asset
• 5+ years of progressive experience in freight audit, transportation finance, logistics, or supply chain analytics
• 7+ years of people leadership experience, with a track record of developing high-performing teams
• Strong knowledge of transportation rate structures, accessorial charges, and carrier contracts across multiple freight modes
• Experience with TMS and freight audit/payment platforms in a mid-to-large enterprise environment
• Advanced data analysis and reporting proficiency using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms
• Proven ability to influence cross-functional partners and lead through complexity and ambiguity
• Strong business acumen with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to translate data into executive-level insights
