Maintenance Assistant – Costco – Mississauga, ON

Costco’s Optical Lab facility in Mississauga, Ontario is looking for a dependable Maintenance Assistant to keep operations running smoothly behind the scenes. In this position, you’ll be responsible for janitorial services, grounds maintenance, and general facility upkeep across the Optical Lab. About the Role: Maintenance Assistant

As a Maintenance Assistant at Costco’s Optical Lab, your primary focus is keeping all areas of the facility clean and properly maintained. You’ll clean floors throughout the building — including offices, break rooms, restrooms, and the production floor — while changing scrubber water regularly to minimise dust. You’ll empty trash, operate trash and cardboard compactors, clean light fixtures, change bulbs, wash windows, and vacuum rafters on a periodic basis. Monitoring and restocking cleaning supplies, performing concrete floor repairs, and assisting with painting are also part of the scope.

Beyond the day-to-day cleaning tasks, this role involves grounds maintenance duties such as blowing leaves, picking up litter, roof checks, and participating in snow and ice removal. You’ll also be responsible for operating the internal maintenance management system, conducting store inventory, and processing internal and external purchases. At all times, adherence to Optical Lab safety and security procedures is essential, and you’ll be expected to respond promptly to spills and other urgent needs.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Assistant role at Costco’s Mississauga Optical Lab covers a broad range of tasks that are critical to maintaining a safe and productive facility. Every day is active and varied, with both routine duties and the occasional urgent response required. Here’s what you can expect to be doing:

• Clean and maintain floors in offices, break rooms, restrooms, and the production floor; change scrubber water frequently to control dust
• Empty trash from designated areas throughout the Lab and operate both trash and cardboard compactors
• Respond quickly to spills and other unexpected cleaning needs to maintain a safe working environment
• Clean light fixtures regularly, change light bulbs, wash windows, wipe upper walls and ceilings, and vacuum rafters periodically
• Assist with grounds maintenance including blowing leaves, picking up litter, conducting roof checks, and participating in snow and ice removal
• Assist with painting and perform concrete floor repairs throughout the Lab as needed
• Monitor and restock cleaning supplies; receive and place merchandise in the appropriate department
• Operate the internal maintenance management system (Interal), conduct store inventory, and handle internal and external purchases
• Follow all safety and security procedures for the Optical Lab and provide courteous service to members, employees, and suppliers

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a reliable and safety-conscious candidate with a willingness to take on physical, hands-on work. The ideal applicant will bring some janitorial experience to the role and demonstrate the mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity needed to handle the variety of maintenance tasks in a busy facility environment.

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Valid driver’s licence is required
• Janitorial experience is preferred
• Mechanical aptitude required to handle equipment such as compactors and floor scrubbers
• Manual dexterity required for the physical demands of the role
• Ability to follow established procedures and adhere to safety and security standards consistently
