Canadian Tire Corporation is looking for a seasoned data leader to step into the role of Director, Data Governance Enablement at its enterprise headquarters in Toronto, Ontario. In this role, you’ll serve as the enterprise subject matter expert on data governance, embedding data ownership, stewardship, and accountability into everyday operations and strategic initiatives. From resolving complex compliance challenges to guiding cross-functional alignment with business, technology, and risk leaders, your work will directly enable scalable, trustworthy data usage across the organization.

About the Role: Director, Data Governance Enablement

At the heart of this position is the responsibility to lead and operationalize enterprise data governance frameworks. You’ll own the implementation of data ownership and stewardship models across enterprise domains, integrate governance requirements into data products and platforms, and establish the metrics and scorecards needed to track governance health over time. This is not a theoretical role — it’s hands-on, results-driven, and enterprise-wide in scope.

You’ll act as the accountable escalation point for governance gaps and ownership issues, working closely with senior stakeholders across the business to ensure that governance practices enable value creation rather than creating friction. A strong grasp of data risk, privacy, and regulatory compliance is essential, as is the ability to implement practical controls that balance risk management with business agility.

As Director of Data Governance Enablement, you’ll be accountable for driving the day-to-day execution of enterprise governance programs while simultaneously shaping the long-term direction of how Canadian Tire manages its data. These responsibilities span strategic leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on governance process improvement.

• Lead and own the implementation of data ownership and stewardship models across enterprise domains
• Drive integration of governance requirements into data products, platforms, and priority initiatives
• Establish and manage governance metrics, scorecards, and reporting to track program health and progress
• Facilitate cross-functional alignment with business, technology, and risk leaders to ensure governance supports delivery outcomes
• Own continuous improvement of governance processes and operating models across the enterprise
• Serve as the escalation point for governance gaps, ownership disputes, and compliance challenges
• Ensure governance practices enable enterprise value creation rather than impede operational progress

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on experience in enterprise data governance and has a demonstrated track record of influencing organizational change at the senior leadership level. Canadian Tire values professionals who can translate complex governance principles into practical, scalable operating models — especially within large, multi-stakeholder environments.

• 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related disciplines
• Demonstrated experience implementing enterprise-wide governance frameworks in complex organizations
• Strong understanding of data risk, privacy, regulatory, and compliance requirements
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive meaningful organizational change
• Hands-on experience implementing and continuously improving governance processes and capabilities
• Exceptional change management skills, including the ability to operationalize best practices across large organizations
• Retail industry experience is preferred
