Amazon Web Services (AWS) is on the lookout for a Data Center Operations Technician (DCEO) to join its expanding Infrastructure Operations team in Montreal and Varennes, Quebec. This is a night shift position supporting mission-critical data centre infrastructure at one of the world’s leading cloud computing companies. If you have hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems in a critical environment, this role puts you at the centre of keeping AWS infrastructure running at peak performance.
As the first line of response for electrical and mechanical issues affecting Amazon’s service availability, you’ll play a key role in maintaining equipment uptime above 99.999%. From diesel generators and UPS systems to air handling units and building automation systems, your technical expertise will directly support the infrastructure powering some of the world’s most important workloads.
About the Role: Data Center Operations Technician
The Data Center Operations Technician is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centre. You’ll serve as the on-site technical resource for Amazon’s data centre facilities, ensuring that critical systems are always operational. Equipment under your care includes standby diesel generators, fuel systems, switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power distribution units (PDUs), air handling units (AHUs, CRAHs, CRACs), pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and building automation systems.
Beyond maintenance, you’ll be expected to contribute to cost reduction initiatives through innovative solutions and process improvements. This role also requires the ability to work on-call outside of regular hours when needed. Please note that this position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada. Bilingualism in French and English is required, as this role involves regular interaction with Amazon teams globally and across Canadian provinces.
Benefits and Salary
AWS offers a competitive hourly wage of $39.00 to $51.00 CAD per hour for this position (Montreal and Varennes locations). In addition to base pay, Amazon’s total compensation package may include sign-on bonuses and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Responsibilities
In this role, your day-to-day work revolves around keeping mission-critical data centre infrastructure running flawlessly during night shift hours. You’ll be the go-to technical expert on-site, responding to issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring all systems meet Amazon’s strict uptime requirements.
- Oversee and maintain all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centre
- Serve as first responder for electrical and mechanical issues affecting Amazon’s service availability
- Monitor and operate building management systems (BMS), electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), and perform data trend analysis
- Maintain and service standby diesel generators, fuel systems, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and switchgear
- Inspect and service cooling systems including AHUs, CRAHs, CRACs, pumps, motors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Drive operational cost reductions through innovative solutions and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide on-call support outside of regular hours when critical situations require it
- Document and communicate technical findings and operational updates clearly in both French and English
Requirements / Skills

- Minimum 2 years of experience in data centre operations, building operations, or an equivalent mission-critical environment
- In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical data centre systems including generators, UPS, ATS, PDUs, AHUs, and BMS/EPMS
- Bilingual (French and English) — strong verbal and written communication skills in both official languages are required
- Physical capability to lift up to 22 kg (49 lbs) and work at heights and from ladders
- Availability for on-call duties and after-hours support as required
- Eligibility for Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada
- Post-secondary education in an electrical or mechanical trade, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering (preferred)
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, data analysis (KPIs, metrics, dashboards), and email communication (preferred)
