About the Role: Category Business Manager, Live Plants

In this position, you’ll be responsible for the full lifecycle of the Live Plants category — from assortment development and pricing strategy through to promotional execution and in-store education. You’ll work closely with Associate Dealers, vendor partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure the Garden Centre delivers strong financial performance and an exceptional customer experience.

Beyond managing the category itself, you’ll also play a meaningful role in developing and mentoring a Category Business Analyst, setting clear performance objectives and providing timely feedback. The role requires someone who is comfortable working cross-functionally, visiting local growers and nurseries periodically, and continuously refining operations based on consumer trends and competitive analysis.

Canadian Tire offers a broadband salary range of $81,000 to $131,000, with a typical hiring range between $95,000 and $120,000 depending on experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Responsibilities

As Category Business Manager, your day-to-day work centres on growing a category that touches millions of Canadian households each spring and summer. From setting assortment plans to coaching your team, every responsibility connects back to delivering results for customers and the business alike.

  • Develop a deep categorical understanding of consumer trends, competitive dynamics, and CTR store requirements
  • Drive financial accountability for the Live Plants category in line with predefined CTR strategy objectives and guidelines
  • Support assortment analysis and product development efforts within the Live Plants portfolio
  • Set and deliver customer-centric assortment plans, including approval of assortment and pricing strategies
  • Manage vendor relationships and lead negotiations while overseeing timeline delivery across the assortment process
  • Define and execute categorical promotional plans, including promotional item selection and offer development to meet financial objectives
  • Provide content for store-level education on products and processes, with a focus on the Garden Centre and Live Plants
  • Mentor and coach a Category Business Analyst by setting clear performance objectives and delivering ongoing, timely feedback

Requirements / Skills

Canadian Tire is looking for a candidate who brings both strategic thinking and hands-on category management experience. Someone who is equally comfortable analyzing market data as they are building relationships with growers or presenting to senior leadership will thrive in this role.

  • 5+ years of experience in Category Management or progressive growth in a relevant cross-functional role; previous experience in Horticulture is preferred
  • Proven ability to develop and execute business plans that achieve financial performance and operational targets
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated expertise in retail marketing, consumer trends, and assortment management
  • Consumer-focused mindset with superior innovation management skills
  • People leadership capabilities with a demonstrated track record of developing others

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • Ability to travel 1–2 weeks per year and visit local growers and nurseries 2–3 times per month; access to a vehicle is ideal
