About the Role: Building Equipment Maintenance Technician

As a Data Centre Engineering and Operations Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centre. You serve as the primary technical resource for on-site infrastructure operations, ensuring uptime, compliance, and operational efficiency across all critical systems.

This role demands a strong sense of ownership and the ability to act quickly under pressure. You’ll work alongside a dedicated team while also being available on-call for after-hours support when required. Please note that this position requires the selected candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada. Bilingualism in French and English is mandatory for this role due to interactions with Amazon teams globally and across Canadian provinces.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary range for this position is $39.00 to $51.00 CAD per hour, with potential for additional compensation elements such as signing bonuses and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Responsibilities

As an Engineering and Operations Technician at an AWS data centre, your daily work involves maintaining and responding to issues across a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems. The reliability of these systems is directly tied to the availability of services that millions of customers count on — making your role essential to AWS’s global operations.

  • Oversee and perform scheduled and preventive maintenance on all electrical and mechanical equipment within the data centre
  • Respond as first responder to electrical and mechanical incidents that could impact service availability
  • Monitor and operate systems including stand-by diesel generators, switchboards, switchgears, and fuel systems
  • Maintain and service UPS systems, PDUs, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and electrical distribution equipment
  • Manage and troubleshoot HVAC and cooling systems including AHUs, CRAHs, CRACs, pumps, motors, and VFDs
  • Monitor and analyse data from building management systems (BMS) and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS)
  • Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs through innovative solutions in facility management
  • Serve as technical liaison between on-site operations and broader Amazon infrastructure teams

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings solid hands-on experience in data centre or mission-critical building operations, paired with in-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. AWS values candidates who take initiative, communicate clearly in both French and English, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data centre operations, building operations, or an equivalent mission-critical environment
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems including generators, transformers, UPS, ATS, and electrical distribution equipment
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems such as AHUs, CRAHs, CRACs, pumps, motors, and VFDs
  • Experience with BMS and EPMS platforms and comfort with data trend analysis and KPI dashboards
  • Bilingualism (French and English) — mandatory due to global and cross-provincial team interactions
  • Physical capability to lift up to 49 lbs and work at heights or from ladders
  • Availability for on-call shifts and after-hours support as required
  • Preferred: Post-secondary education in an electrical or mechanical trade, or a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering
  • Preferred: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools
