About the Role: Sr. Specialist Solutions Architect, Databases

As a Database Specialist Solutions Architect, your days will be spent designing and delivering complete cloud-native database architectures built on AWS services such as RDS, Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DynamoDB. You’ll collaborate closely with specialist sellers, marketing teams, and AWS product groups to develop innovative solutions tailored to each customer’s most pressing business challenges. Whether it’s migrating legacy Oracle or SQL Server workloads to AWS or architecting new greenfield solutions, you’ll guide customers every step of the way.

Beyond customer engagements, you’ll contribute to the broader technical community by publishing thought leadership content — blogs, white papers, and reference architectures — and representing AWS at major industry events like AWS re:Invent and AWS Summit. The role demands someone equally comfortable whiteboarding solutions with engineers and presenting strategic roadmaps to executive stakeholders.

Benefits and Salary

This position offers a base salary range of $146,000 to $211,600 CAD annually for the Toronto location. As a total compensation company, Amazon’s package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).   • Provide deep technical expertise and strategic guidance to AWS customers on effectively using AWS Database Services across their business
  • Collaborate with AWS teams — including specialist sales, marketing, and product — to develop innovative solutions for complex customer challenges
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customer executives, helping them navigate cloud transformation and digital innovation journeys
  • Lead architectural reviews and workshops focused on common use cases and industry best practices to jump-start AWS migration initiatives
  • Design and architect complex database solutions using both relational and non-relational technologies based on customer requirements
  • Develop and deliver proof-of-concept projects, technical workshops, and support for migration from on-premises databases like Oracle/SQL Server to AWS services such as RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB
  • Create thought leadership content including blogs, white papers, and reference architectures to champion industry best practices
  • Present at key industry events such as AWS re:Invent, AWS Summit, and other major conferences
  • Provide product feedback to AWS engineering teams and act as the primary point of contact for urgent customer technical issues
  • Stay current with emerging trends in databases, analytics, and Generative AI to help customers innovate and maintain competitive advantage

Requirements / Skills

AWS is looking for a seasoned technical professional who combines deep database expertise with strong communication skills and a genuine passion for solving complex problems. The ideal candidate brings both hands-on technical depth and the business acumen to engage confidently at the executive level across a range of industries.

  • 8+ years of experience in specific technology domain areas such as software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, or data & analytics
  • 3+ years of experience in design, implementation, or consulting for applications and infrastructures
  • Deep knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL — and/or non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB
  • Strong communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences, including experience presenting to executive-level stakeholders
  • 5+ years of infrastructure and database architecture experience (preferred), including networking
  • Experience in a technical sales organization and working with end-user or developer communities (preferred)
  • Experience architecting and operating solutions on AWS (preferred)
