About the Role: Sr. Software Dev Engineer, Aurora Control Plane

As a Senior SDE on the Aurora Control Plane team, you’ll take ownership of significant portions of the team’s software — from initial scoping and design through to deployment and long-term maintenance. You’ll work closely with customers, stakeholders, and fellow engineers to understand real-world requirements and translate them into robust, scalable solutions. The team values both technical depth and collaborative problem-solving.

You’ll also play an important role in mentorship and technical leadership, helping shape the team’s engineering culture and raising the bar across design reviews, coding standards, and operational excellence. Benefits and Salary

This position offers a base salary range of $150,700 to $251,700 CAD annually for the Toronto location. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities

In this senior engineering role, you’ll be deeply involved across the full software development lifecycle — from early-stage design conversations through to production deployment and ongoing operations. Your contributions will directly shape how Aurora scales and performs for a global customer base, making quality and technical rigour central to everything you do.

  • Deliver software features and improvements to major portions of the team’s codebase
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and peers to understand requirements and deliver the right solutions
  • Design software solutions that enable new features or meaningfully improve existing ones
  • Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including scoping, architecture, coding, code reviews, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Support operational work to resolve customer issues and improve team operations
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to fellow engineers on the team

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is looking for a seasoned engineer who has shipped real products and built control planes, tooling, and large-scale systems. You should be genuinely passionate about tackling hard technical problems, learning emerging technologies, and contributing to a positive and inclusive team culture.   • 5+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language
  • 5+ years of experience leading system design or architecture, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team lead
  • Full SDLC experience including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent (preferred)
