About the Role: Software Development Manager
As a Software Development Manager within the eCommerce Services Group (eCS), you’ll lead a team of engineers responsible for services that handle every stage of the customer purchase journey. Your mandate includes building and scaling the next generation of core ordering infrastructure — systems that need to be secure, highly available, and reliable at global scale. You’ll own the product roadmap, drive technical architecture decisions, and ensure the team is delivering with both speed and quality.
Beyond the technical work, you’ll play a key role in shaping team culture. Recruiting, mentoring, and growing diverse engineering talent is central to this position. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, stakeholders, and other engineering teams, while keeping a sharp focus on risk mitigation and timely execution of goals.
Benefits and Salary
Amazon offers a base salary range of $171,400 to $286,200 CAD annually for this role in Vancouver, BC. As part of Amazon’s total compensation philosophy, the package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be accountable for both the technical direction and team performance of a growing engineering organization. Your work directly impacts how millions of Amazon customers experience the purchase and fulfillment process — making both leadership quality and technical depth equally important.
- Build and lead diverse, inclusive, and high-performing engineering teams through recruiting, mentoring, motivating, and performance management
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, stakeholders, and senior leaders to ensure successful delivery of product capabilities
- Drive prioritization and timely execution of team goals while effectively identifying and mitigating risks
- Define and own strategic product roadmaps and set a clear vision in partnership with other stakeholder teams
- Lead technical discussions including architecture and design reviews for complex engineering problems
- Conduct deep dives to identify and resolve root causes of complex system issues
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of engineering management experience and hands-on technical depth. Amazon is looking for someone who is both customer obsessed and capable of navigating ambiguous, large-scale technical challenges with confidence and clarity.
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience, including leading and growing technical teams
- 7+ years working directly within engineering teams, with a deep understanding of software development practices
- 3+ years of systems design and architecture experience, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling
- 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
- Knowledge of full software development lifecycle practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams to align technical delivery with business goals
- Preferred: Experience communicating with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to gather requirements and articulate product strategy
- Preferred: Proven track record in recruiting, hiring, and coaching software engineers to grow their skills and effectiveness
