About the Role: Software Development Engineer II
As an SDE II on the Ordering team, you’ll work on some of Amazon’s most critical eCommerce infrastructure. Your work will directly influence how millions of orders are processed, tracked, and fulfilled. You’ll be expected to own your systems, dive deep into technical challenges, and produce flexible, scalable solutions built on strong foundations of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
Collaboration is built into how Amazon operates. You’ll engage with peers in design reviews, code reviews, and broader architectural discussions, contributing to a culture of technical rigour and innovation within the eCommerce services group.
Benefits and Salary
The base salary for this position in Vancouver, BC ranges from $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually. As a total compensation employer, Amazon’s package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon provides a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities
Working on the Ordering team means you’re at the centre of Amazon’s retail engine. Day to day, you’ll be designing and building systems that must handle massive scale and high reliability, solving some of the most technically demanding problems in cloud-scale commerce. Every decision you make has a direct impact on customer experience.
- Design and architect flexible, scalable solutions for large-scale distributed ordering systems
- Own systems end to end, from initial design through to production operations and ongoing improvements
- Develop innovative solutions to complex problems using strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming
- Participate in code and design reviews, upholding high standards across the team
- Contribute to the technical direction of the platform, influencing how Amazon’s ordering infrastructure evolves

Requirements / Skills
Amazon is looking for engineers who are comfortable working at the intersection of technical depth and broad system thinking. - 3+ years of professional software development experience outside of internships
- 3+ years of system design and architecture experience, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems
- Proficiency in at least one programming language used in professional software development
- Experience with the full software development life cycle (preferred), including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred)
