Benefits and Salary

Amazon offers a competitive base salary ranging from $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually for this Toronto-based position, with total compensation that may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. The comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D insurance), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities

Day to day, you’ll be building and refining the AI-driven systems that power Alexa’s communication capabilities. These responsibilities span technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and cross-functional collaboration — all in service of delivering reliable, intelligent experiences for customers worldwide.

  • Influence strategy by helping define product features, refine system architecture, and establish Agentic AI and LLM best practices
  • Build agentic APIs that deliver low-latency, low-cost, highly reliable, and highly scalable cloud services and device software solutions
  • Drive software design and development standards, including leading code reviews and defining team processes
  • Optimize software libraries for low latency, reduced CPU usage, and minimal memory footprint
  • Deliver high-quality software in a dynamic, team-focused Agile/Scrum environment
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to their professional development by improving technical knowledge and engineering practices
  • Integrate advanced AI systems — including Generative, Agentic, and Real-time AI — into Alexa’s core capabilities

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is looking for a driven software engineer with a solid foundation in system design and hands-on development experience. The ideal candidate brings both technical depth and a collaborative mindset, with a genuine interest in pushing the boundaries of what conversational AI can do.

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship) in a production environment
  • 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language used in a professional software development context
  • Full software development life cycle experience (preferred), including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent (preferred)
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with product, design, and data science teams
